DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW - SEASON 5.10

REVIEW:  DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW - SEASON 5.10:  "Ship Broken"

Things have taken a bit of a dark turn aboard the Waverider.  Sara's in a coma after falling to a blast from Charlie's sister Aprotose, and surviving, but now there's complications.  The team HAS the Loom of Fate, and Charlie now has two tasks:  Save Astra's mother, as John had promised, her, and Zari wants her brother Behrad back.  Now, Ava wants to save Sara from what's going on with her.  Meanwhile, we continue to see Mick TRY and make headway with his daughter Lita, who still isn't real thrilled with him.

So...with Khalesis and Atropose---Charlie's sister's---on the hunt for the Loom of Fate themselves, what kind of trouble will our trippy team of time travellers get into?  Let's find out!

_____________________________________________________________________________

Our team certainly can find ways of getting into trouble, and this week is no different.  We DID get back to some of the humor and campiness that has made this Arrowverse show one of the best.  As I have stated before, the rules go out the window on this show, and that's the appeal.  All the characters are unique unto themselves, and it's been fun poking into their lives, seeing them develop, and get into all sorts of wild adventrues, all while giving us that important wink at the camera in the long run.  This season has taken a bit of a more dramatic turn as of late, but that's not a bad thing.  It's good to insert that in there, since these ARE heroes, and they DO face dramatic situations when they face danger, and within their own lives.  Crisis did a lot to upend things, but bring the team closer together.  But with the Loom of Fate being the McGuffin this season that will save the day or destroy everything, it's led way to some interesting developments with our crew.

We saw Charlie begin to use the Loom of Fate to try and revive Zari's recently deceased brother Behrad.  This, after much bickering among the team and Astra--who's now a tagalong with the group, betraying Khalesis in the process by not becoming their new "sister" and get the Loom from the Legends.  Astra wanted her mother revived immediately, Zari wanted her brother, and Ava wanted Sara revived, being as she is still in her coma after collapsing last week.  Charlie makes the call, and begins to revive Behrad by finding his threat---but it doesn't work, and everyone is disappointed.  Charlie can't honestly USE the Loom on her own---she needs her sisters, and they can't have that.  So, they need to find another way.

Mick gets his daughter Lita for the weekend, and she has a history test to study for.  Mick brings her aboard the ship, and he gains SOME brownie points for that.  She ends up meeting Nate, who offers to teach her history, and he shows off his powers for her, for which she is ALSO impressed.  Mick wants her to hit the books, and she seems a tad reluctant.  Nate does what he can to help by saying that Mick steals valuables to help finance the Legends, and Mick shows her the room where the loot is.  She's goes into this deal where she thinks he can diversify all this treasure, go back in time, work the stock market, and become billionaires.  Mick isn't having any of that, and gets her back to her studies.  He loses cool points, but he's trying.

She kind of sees her father as a hypocrite, but he ends up telling her that he's her daughter, and wants the best for her, and to not BECOME him.  Later on, he ends up having to save her from the Hellhound that Gary ended up bringing aboard (and we'll get to that in a second), and they manage to have a good moment at the end.  Mick is easily the most comical member of the team, without really trying.  His seriousness, straightforward and hash demeanor, plus the various one-liners he tends to get, makes him one of the favorites on the team.  He's also had THE most character development this season---seeing as how he now has a daughter he's trying to keep on the straight and narrow---while fully knowing that he IS a hypocrite, and won't really change who HE is himself.  It's led to comical moments, as well as some sweet introspective from our favorite pyromaniac.  And Lita is a perfect foil to his harsh exterior.  She meets him with the same attitude and gives as good as she takes.  She IS Mick Rory's kid...without a doubt.

We also saw Gary bring aboard a service dog, because he suffered such "trauma" when they were in Hell, trying to get answers from Astra.  What Gary DIDN'T quickly inform everyone, was that he brought the dog FROM Hell, without even THINKING about the consequences.  If it's one thing that's been used (or attempted as "used"), as comic relief---is Gary.  And lemme tell you...I have always felt that Gary is good in doses.  But if he's there every single episode, it just grates on me.  If there's ONE character I feel this team can function WITHOUT---it's Gary.  I know he's the bumbling goof of the team, but sheesh---even pulls that off with such annoying fervor, that I almost wanna click the show off.  Be that as it may, Gary brings this Hellhound on board, and it begins to manipulate the crew, by getting into their heads, and forcing certain members to start sabotaging the ship, which happens when it shuts down in the time stream.  The team ends up bickering with each other, pointing fingers as to WHO may be the saboteur, and all the fingers point to Astra, since she's the one who sent the encores after the team in order to get at John.  We see her and Zari go toe to toe verbally, pointing the fingers at each other.  Zari ends up hacking into the security footage to find out that not did SHE sabotage the ship...but so did Nate AND Charlie, who threw the Loom down the toilet.

Through all of this, Ava is worried about Sara, who DOES wake up from her coma, only to find out that she's blind from having been blasted by Atropose.  All during this episode, she's been getting visions of death everytime she touches someone.  She has no idea who the killer is until she touches John again, and finds out that it's her.  She puts herself into quarantine, until Gary comes in with his dog...and the dog is telling her to kill him, and she imagine that she does.  Sara is the one that puts two and two together, and realize that it's the dog that is the culprit for all the things going on aboard the ship.  At first the team doesn't believe her, but when Zari sees the dog in all the security clips, they realize that the dog IS responsible for the trouble, and realize it's a Hellhound.  The majority of the team manages to save themselves in the cell, but Astra gets out and leaves them there, in order to go and help out once the Hellhound is discovered.

The Hellhound is roaming about the ship, and, as I brought up before, hid in the vents to attack, and stumbles upon Lita, who had shut out her Dad, while he's trying to reason with her.  Once the hound attacks, Mick manages to break in and save her.  The Hound goes off, and both Sara and Mick chase after it.  Sara can't see to fight it, but she can HEAR it...and  she uses her other sense to avoid the attack, and deliver a blow to the creature.  Astra comes around, and says that the beast's name is Marchovias, and she is about to disband of him, when John comes and does the job himself.  With the creature banished, the team gets the ship back online, and Gary is stuck doing the dirty deed of getting the Loom back, which he does.  He also decided to adopt a rabbit for his service animal.

Zari and Astra come to SOME understanding, but they're not going to be friends....both have their relatives back, and feel THEY should be the first.  Sara is the unlucky one, however...as Gideon's scan of her eyes shows NOTHING wrong with her, even though she's blind.  Mick and his daughter, as mentioned before, DO come to some common ground for now.

This was a good episode, and helped provide more motivations for Astra, Zari, Ava, and everyone else.  Astra did her best to manipulate Zari into letting her have Charlie save her mother first instead of Behrad, and Zari wasn't having it.  I credit this version of Zari for learning quickly, and not allowing herself to be played by Astra.  We're also seeing more of her adopining her alternate self's abilities to solve problems.  She's truly coming into her own.  Gary was his usually annoying self, and the catalyst for this week's problem.  Nate's brief moment in this episode helped Mick bridge the gap with Lita.  He's the heart of the team, and fills that role VERY well.  Ava shows how much she loves Sara by being by her side the whole time, and has stepped up as a co-leader of the team.  Sara's new powers are interesting, and I'm curious to see what happens before the season ends as to what happens to them...as well as what it will mean for the future of our Matriarch.  And Mick and Lita...I've explained in detail about Mick's growth, and it continued here.

All in all, another fine program, and I believe THIS is the one show that WILL get it's full season run because it had wrapped production BEFORE we went into quarantine, and everything shut down, but don't quote me on that.  Either way, we look forward to what happens next...including the next move from Charlie's sisters.
